The Opportunity:
This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Systems at the University of Edinburgh (https://www.ed.ac.uk/global-agriculture-food-systems). As part of the Jameel Observatory for Food Security Early Action (https://jameelobservatory.org/), the appointee will support programmes of research on weather shocks, poverty, conflict, food insecurity and anticipatory action in the drylands of Africa. You will do so as part of a multidisciplinary research team working in collaboration with practitioners to address real-world problems.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- A PhD (or PhD nearing completion) in a relevant topic (social or natural sciences) plus a record of achievement in a field relevant to food security early action in pastoral systems, as evidenced by practical experience, research publications and educational/capacity strengthening activities (Desirable).
- Experience performing research on global challenges relevant to low-income countries, especially in cross/inter/trans-disciplinary research initiatives and in collaborative research.
- Practical experience of multi-disciplinary research in the Global South, ideally on topics relevant to food security early action in pastoral systems.
- Training and experience in quantitative approaches to research.
