Overview

Edinburgh Airport is Scotland’s busiest airport facilitating just under 17 million passengers in 2025 and owner of an ambitious growth strategy to significantly increase passenger numbers and improve destination choice further.

Edinburgh Airport has an ambitious carbon reduction programme, with the Airport on track to achieve its first Net Zero milestone in 2030. From the introduction of the UK’s first airside solar farm, which generates 25% of the electricity consumed across campus, to reducing our scope 1 & 2 emissions by 89%, the business is continuing to invest in decarbonising our sector.

As the airport and our network continues to grow, we are looking to expand our Sustainability Team here at Edinburgh Airport, offering a role with support and career progression. We have an opportunity for a Sustainability Advisor to join our Sustainability and Communications Team.

About the role

Reporting to the Sustainability Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of the airport’s Greater Good sustainability strategy, specifically working to deliver the commitments in our Trusted Neighbour pillar. You will support the airport’s dialogue with its communities and help respond to community concerns and related issues and requests.

You will work inter-departmentally to support and thread together sustainability initiatives around the campus and will involve working across key internal and external stakeholder groups to support these. Key topics here will include the support of noise concerns, complaints and management, liaison with charity partnerships, identification and promotion of volunteering opportunities, custody and management of the airport’s Community Fund and community board process and support with STEM activities and young people engagement.

Lastly, you will also be required to act as part of the wider team supporting communications projects such as campus events, partner consultations and internal and external communications by providing the community liaison function, and support as needed. This role will be primarily office based in Edinburgh Airport.

About the recruitment process

The recruitment process for this role will be comprised of 3 stages:

• An in-person interview with competency and values based questions as well as a short task which must be presented to the interview panel

What you’ll be doing

Your day-to-day responsibility will be to promote and contribute towards the implementation of Edinburgh Airport’s Trusted Neighbour pillar. Responsibilities include:

• Support monitoring processes for the Airport, including processing and interpreting ESG data for reporting.
• Support the preparation of the airports annual Greater Good report.
• Support in developing stakeholder partnerships with communities, charities and campus partners onsite.
• Assist in collating and compiling sustainability data for internal and external communications, reporting, and team updates.
• Assist in organising noise insulation visits and communications with local residents.
• Provide support in public consultations with the local community and other interested parties, as necessary e.g. Airport Consultative Committee, Noise Action Plan
• Manage the airport’s Community Fund by scheduling review meetings, reviewing applications and generating community interest and submissions through stakeholder engagement.
• Support the relationship with the airport’s Charity Partner of the Year and develop further opportunities for long-term community partnerships with the charity.
• Providing advice and support to senior members of Edinburgh Airport management regarding community issues and concerns, plus ideas and opportunities for engagement and partnership development.

What we’re looking for

• You will be someone with a deep passion for sustainability and for driving long term change in a busy, exciting environment. A degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability or a related subject is desirable.
• You will be personable, a good communicator, and able to work with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds and departments.
• You will be organised and logical in your approach, allowing you to keep track of the many threads of the airport’s sustainability programme while identifying any trends within the information.
• You will be comfortable handling stakeholder issues, including community concerns or complaints, and able to respond with empathy and professionalism.
• You will have a good attention to detail and be confident working with information, applications or data to support reporting, decision-making and clear communications.
