Hours: 36 per week

Shift: 4x4 shift, 4 day week shift. Variable shifts available as part of this recruitment process

Are you someone who enjoys working outdoors, being physically active, and making a real difference in your community? Join our Waste team and play a vital role in keeping Edinburgh clean, safe and sustainable.

As a Waste and Recycling Collection Operative, you’ll work as part of a dedicated team collecting household and commercial waste, supporting recycling initiatives, and delivering excellent customer service to residents across the city.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Collect household and recycling waste safely and efficiently.
  • Operate bin-lifting equipment and assist with vehicle manoeuvring.
  • Collect bulky waste and help remove fly-tipping where appropriate.
  • Keep collection areas clean by clearing any spillages.
  • Promote recycling and provide advice to residents on waste services.
  • Report issues such as contaminated bins, access problems or damaged containers.
  • Work closely with your crew to complete daily collection routes safely and on time.
  • Follow health and safety procedures at all times.

  • We’re looking for reliable, hardworking individuals who:
  • Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Have a positive attitude and strong team-working skills.
  • Are physically fit and capable of manual handling.
  • Can provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with the public.
  • Have an awareness of health and safety practices.
  • Have experience in waste, recycling or environmental services (desirable but not essential).
  • An SVQ Level 2 in Waste Management (or willingness to achieve this within 36 months) is desirable.
